The 70th Legislative Assembly -Regular Session commences January 5, 2027. In the next several blogs I will emphasize a few opportunities or points for you to inform or remind legislators of some of the current challenges or hurdles facing everyday North Dakota farmers. Your legislators need to know your present and future concerns about farming in North Dakota.
PART 1: The Farm Financial Squeeze
Farmers Need Relief from Rising Costs
North Dakota farmers are facing a difficult financial reality. Fertilizer, seed, chemicals, fuel, equipment and interest expenses continue to put pressure on farm budgets, while tight commodity margins make it harder to cover the cost of production. Our state legislators have an opportunity to help. Expanding Bank of North Dakota agricultural lending programs, supporting affordable operating credit and maintaining agricultural sales tax exemptions could provide meaningful relief.
Our message to legislators: Help North Dakota farmers manage rising costs and keep their operations financially strong.
How to contact your legislators: You may e-mail or call your legislators. You might want to start with the legislators in your legislative district. However, you are not limited to contacting your legislators in your district. You may contact any legislator you choose. Your legislators and their contact information are on the North Dakota Legislative Branch Website and available at this link.
Contacting NDSGA Board Members: You also may contact your Soybean Growers Association board members. Like you do with legislators, you also have a representative through your membership and you can share your concerns and issues with board members, too. Attached is a link to the board members list and the district map.
