Also known as the Ag Field Lab, Waldron Hall is the number one priority item identified by SBARE (State Board of Agricultural Research and Education) for this legislative session. The bill it is found within is HB 1020, which contains all manner of funding for Research and Extension efforts. The building would replace four aging structures, I believe, with the central focus of being seed and pathology labs. Obviously, understanding crop diseases and other health threats is of primary importance to your industry. The money required is $97 million and it came out of the House Appropriations committee fully funded. Since then, legislative leadership has found that they are nearly a couple billion overspent if one counts the money approved by both Houses. Of course, that contains some duplicative or redundant money, so it is the time of the session to rein things in and Senate Appropriations is doing what it can to make sure construction can begin on the Ag Field Lab as soon as possible. This morning, the subcommittee handling this budget has decided to fund $87 million and give authority for Research and Extension to raise $10 million on their own. It still needs to go to the full Senate Appropriations and the entire Senate, but that is the update for now.
